New Air Traffic Management Centres Come to the Skies of Oman
Indra implements its new air traffic control position - one of the most advanced on the market - in the Muscat and Salalah facilities.
Under the contract signed in 2010 by Indra with the Sultanate's Ministry of Transport and Communications to modernize all its airports and air traffic management systems (ATM), the company shall now proceed to implement these new consoles which respond to the air operations paradigm promoted by the most advanced ATM innovation programs: iTEC and Sesar in Europe and Nextgen in USA. This technology will provide significant competitive advantages to Oman's navigation service provider.
The position (iCWP) has a single 56" high-resolution screen for fast, easy access to information. Everything appears in the same virtual environment free of visual distractions and noise. The simplicity and possibilities offered by the system make work easier and give the controller more time to make the right decisions and manage increasing volumes of air traffic.
Controllers at the Muscat and Salalah facilities will thus gain quick access to flight paths, radar information, manage communications, check meteorological information, as well as flight data and documentation. The controllers themselves will choose how they want to display this information on screen, creating their own workspace.
The console adapts to all the controller's profiles and functions, providing flexibility to the control centers in order to meet their requirements at any time. Furthermore, the system is based on open architecture that facilitates interoperability, a key concept because ATM systems must increasingly exchange information with systems and control centers in other countries that are involved in air operations.
Indra is one of the leading companies in the international ATM market with over 1,200 facilities in 95 countries and more than 30 years' experience
