TMA 2012 Project to streamline Dublin Airspace

TMA 2012 is an ongoing IAA  project with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of Dublin airspace.
As part of this, a number of significant improvements will be introduced in December 2012.

TMA 2012 has three main component parts:

New conditional air route
This new route will enable aircraft to fly over the north Wales military training area during early mornings and weekends. This will provide aircraft departing from Dublin with a more direct and efficient route and will result in savings in excess of 10 Nautical Miles per flight.

Point Merge
The Point Merge system will greatly optimise the arrival of aircraft at Dublin. At its core, it¡¯s about Air Traffic Control sequencing aircraft for landing in an optimal and more efficient way. It involves placing arriving aircraft onto defined, equidistant, arcs from which they can make a continuous descent to the runway. As a result, this will greatly reduce the need to put aircraft in traditional holding patterns and thus reduces fuel burn and CO2 emissions.

Dublin Air Traffic Control sectors to be split vertically
The present sectorisation of Dublin airspace will be changed to facilitate more optimised service delivery and staff utilisation.
